FROM THE STUNNING STACKPOLE ESTATE
OUTER REEF SCHOOL RESIDENTIALS PROGRAMME
Outer Reef was delighted to welcome groups of young people aged 10/11 to the spectacular Stackpole Estate during the sunniest month of March. With blue skies from dawn til dusk, three primary schools from across the country (Trelales from Bridgend, Kings Lodge from Wiltshire and Neston Primary School from Bath) joined Outer Reef’s team of passionate and dedicated instructors for a week of action-packed activities in the natural environment.
Each residential week is tailored to the individual school’s requirements but there are themes which are common throughout - discovery, exploration, skill development and, most importantly, smiles, laughter and fun in the outdoors.
BUSHCRAFT ACTIVITIES
Bushcraft was a firm favourite - with young people learning how to survive and thrive in the natural environment. Skills included building shelters out of sticks, purifying water, making fire and identifying (and eating) edible plants - wild garlic and cheese breads cooked over a fire pit – yum!
PADDLE BOARDING & RAFT BUILDING
Young people also got the chance to explore the wonderful world of water – with a number of adrenaline filled wet activities. Pupils (and staff!) loved paddleboarding at our secret, sheltered location, with a skill-based session on paddle strokes, turning techniques, and balance.
This was closely followed by some exhilarating team building activities - paddling, splashing, and jumping off the giant inflatable SUP along with a raft building session where children learned to tie knots, build, float and race their own rafts.
