Outer Reef operates exclusive Mentawai and Telo Islands surf charters with a maximum of 10 surfers per trip, creating a focused, high-quality surf experience.
Our 2025 August Mentawai surf charter is fully booked, and early spaces for the 2026 season are open. The trip is designed for intermediate and advanced surfers who want access to world-class waves, local guidance and the flexibility to move with the conditions.
Rather than committing to one fixed area, the charter route can respond to swell direction, wind and tide. That gives the crew more opportunity to place the group at the most suitable waves available during the trip.

What surf level is required?
The trip is designed for intermediate and advanced surfers. You should paddle confidently, surf independently and feel comfortable around reef waves, currents and deeper water.
How many surfers are on the charter?
Outer Reef charters are limited to a maximum of 10 surfers to create a more focused experience.
Is the route fixed?
No. The route is flexible and is shaped by swell forecasts, wind, tide, safety and the ability of the group.
Will we definitely surf Macaronis, HT’s or Lance’s?
No individual wave can be guaranteed. The crew chooses the best suitable options available during the charter.
Why travel in the off-season?
The off-season can offer quality surf with fewer boats and less pressure in the line-up, although all ocean trips remain dependent on conditions.
Do I need to bring my own surfboard?
Guests should confirm board arrangements before travel. Outer Reef can advise on suitable boards, spares and packing for the trip.
Are flights included?
International and domestic flights are not normally included unless specifically stated in your quotation. Outer Reef will confirm the meeting point and travel information before booking.
